Janice Levy is an acclaimed photographer whose work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in various museums and galleries. Notable venues include MILK in New York City, CEPA in Buffalo, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University in Ithaca, the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda in St. John’s, Antigua, and Galería Valid Photo in Barcelona, Spain. Her photographs and writing have been widely published in textbooks, magazines, and online platforms. Publications featuring her work include “Lens Culture Vol. 2”, The Institute for Photographic Empowerment, The Chronicle of Higher Education, “L’Express de Madagascar”, “Stone Canoe” (Volume 8), among others.
Levy has received several awards, including the 2017 Photo District News (PDN) Critic’s Choice Award and the 2017 2nd Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Award. She has also won multiple awards in the IPA competitions and secured first place in the highly competitive Photo Review 2013 Photo Competition for her photographs of Saudi Arabia. Additionally, she has been awarded a Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and received two Light Work Grants. In 2004, she was one of twelve finalists for the prestigious Honickman Book Award and was a short-listed semifinalist in 2012. Furthermore, she received the three-year National Kellogg Fellowship Award for Leadership (Group XI) in 1990.
Currently, Janice Levy is a full professor in the Department of Media, Arts, Sciences, and Studies at the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. She holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Photography from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, obtained in 1986, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from Washington University in 1978.
